Design in Every Dimension

Design in Every Dimension

How did you discover your passion for design and start in the field?

It all started with a love for creativity and technology, merging art with computers from a young age. My brother-in-law, a graphic designer, then revealed to me that this was actually something you could do for a living. I studied graphic design at the Surrey Institute and took my first steps into the digital world by building a website for a local company in 1996, taking this as an opportunity to learn HTML from scratch.

Why did you co-found Wiedemann Lampe and what is your role there?

I co-founded Wiedemann Lampe with Benji Wiedemann after feeling limited at traditional agencies. We wanted to combine brand and digital strategy in more meaningful ways than we were seeing around us. Today, Wiedemann Lampe is a strategic brand consultancy focused on culture, education, and placemaking. My role as creative director focuses on translating brands into digital experiences, setting up the groundwork in the early project stages and then implementing final concepts into reality. The partnership with Benji balances his creative instincts with my strategic execution.

How do you integrate science into your design process?

I’m fascinated by scientific concepts like quantum physics and neural networks, which influence a lot of my design thinking. These concepts allow me to approach challenges in innovative ways, like using molecular structures to evoke brand architecture. This blend of right-brain creativity and left-brain logic is central to my approach when tackling complex design problems.

Design shouldn’t be trend driven. It should be driven from the specificity of the challenge you are solving. We can stand on the shoulders of giants, but why not try standing with a different crowd of giants?
